After weeks of closure which meant that motorists were forced to take a detour, the A518 in Newport is set to reopen to vehicles later this week.
The stretch of road between Chetwynd Aston Roundabout (Sheep Island) and Audley Avenue Roundabout (next to Aldi) has been closed since 30th March for major road improvements.
An official 16-mile diversion has been in place, taking motorists through Weston Under Lizard and on to Priorslee. However, many drivers have found shortcuts - with HGVs attempting to divert through Newport Town centre. Local residents have called the situation "horrific".
The stretch of road is set to be reopened on Friday 8th May.
