Staffordshire's emergency services and local agencies have launched a new version of the Staffordshire Prepared website, designed to help people take practical steps to protect themselves and their families if the unexpected happens.
The site is run by the Staffordshire Resilience Forum, a partnership of emergency services, councils and health organisations working together to keep the county safe. It covers advice for individuals, families, businesses and wider communities, written in plain, easy-to-follow language.
Chief Fire Officer Glynn Luznyj said: "Prepared people build strong communities. Incidents such as fires, floods and power outages will continue to occur, and external threats are growing. Please take the time to see what you need to be prepared and take those simple steps."
Start with a grab bag
Even if you only do one thing, the advice is to put together a grab bag - a small bag of essentials you can pick up quickly if you need to leave home in a hurry. Useful items to include are:
- Copies of important documents (passport, insurance, medication details)
- A phone charger and portable battery pack
- Enough medication for several days
- Some cash
- A torch and spare batteries
- Warm clothing and a waterproof layer
- Water and snacks
