Could you be Staffordshire's next Poet Laureate?

Staffordshire County Council is looking for its next Poet Laureate and Young Poet Laureate - and applications are now open to Gnosall poets.

Two exciting poetry roles are up for grabs in Staffordshire, and anyone from Gnosall with a passion for verse is encouraged to apply.

The roles

The Staffordshire Poet Laureate (2026-28) is a two-year position for an experienced poet to act as a county ambassador — creating new work, performing at events, supporting local initiatives and mentoring the Young Poet Laureate.

The Staffordshire Young Poet Laureate (2026-27) is a one-year role giving a young poet the chance to develop their voice, build confidence and inspire other young people to engage with poetry.

How to apply

Email connectedlibraries@staffordshire.gov.uk to request an application pack. The deadlines are:

  • Poet Laureate: Friday 7 August
  • Young Poet Laureate: Friday 21 August
