Staffordshire's visitor economy is now worth a record £2.84 billion and supports nearly 25,000 jobs across the county. To mark World Tourism Day (27 September), Staffordshire County Council is encouraging local people to take advantage of free career support through its Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service.
The service helps people find work in hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions and more, while also helping local businesses with their recruitment needs.
Real results for local businesses
Quarry Walk Park, a family-run holiday park near Alton, has used the service and seen real benefits. Rebecca Millican, Group Operations Manager, said the experience had been "extremely positive", with the park able to offer workplace placements to build people's confidence and skills.
One placement participant, Matt, has since moved into part-time employment at the park and is now working independently after completing his training.
Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said:
World Tourism Day is a chance to celebrate the fantastic businesses, attractions and people who make Staffordshire such a great place to visit.
Tourism and hospitality contribute billions of pounds to our local economy and support thousands of jobs across the county. It’s important that local people can access these opportunities and that businesses can recruit the skilled workforce they need."
