A 17-year-old boy has admitted attempting to murder a man he stabbed multiple times on a footpath near Stafford Castle Golf Club in May.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attacked a man in his 60s on a public footpath through the Stafford Castle Golf Club on 14 May. The victim suffered critical injuries and underwent several operations before being discharged from hospital.

The boy pleaded guilty to attempted murder at Stafford Crown Court on Friday. He also admitted possession of a bladed article in a public place and theft from a shop.

After fleeing the scene before police and paramedics arrived, the teenager was identified through CCTV footage and public appeals. He was arrested in Stafford on 19 May.
