If you're between 40 and 74 and haven't had an NHS Health Check in the last five years, you're eligible for a free appointment that could spot early signs of heart disease, stroke, diabetes or high blood pressure.
What happens at the check?
The appointment takes around 20 to 30 minutes and is carried out by trained professionals. You'll leave with a personalised heart age card showing whether your heart is biologically older, younger or the same age as you actually are.
Checks are delivered by Everyone Health Staffordshire and are available at pop-up and mobile van locations across the county, as well as regular monthly clinics.
Why bother if you feel fine?
Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, knows the stakes first-hand, having had a heart attack at 47. He said: "These conditions can develop without symptoms, so this quick check could make a life-saving difference." He's particularly keen for men to come forward, as they are less likely to get checked.
Zoe Williams from Everyone Health Staffordshire added: "We often see people who feel completely well, but their results tell a different story. The heart age result helps people understand their health in a simple way and often gives them the motivation to make small changes that can have a big impact over time."
Who is not eligible?
You won't qualify if you already have a long-term condition such as heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease, as you should already be receiving regular monitoring through your GP.
