Local makers, food producers, farmers and creators across Staffordshire can now apply for a new quality mark that celebrates products genuinely made in the county. The Made in Staffordshire scheme was launched at last month's County Show, after a preview at the House of Commons, and is run by We Are Staffordshire, the county's place marketing organisation.
What's in it for Gnosall businesses?
Businesses that sign up get more than just a logo. Members receive:
- Use of the trusted Made in Staffordshire quality mark
- Marketing support and promotional opportunities
- A listing in a planned online directory
- Invitations to future campaigns and events
- Access to advice on quality, compliance and growth, through links with the Chamber of Commerce and the county council's trading standards team
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to a wide range of businesses, including manufacturers, food and drink producers, artisan makers, growers, farmers and florists. To be eligible, a business must have a registered or trading address in Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent, have been trading for at least six months, and carry out a meaningful part of its production process within the county.
Staffordshire businesses already on board
Fifteen local businesses showcased their products at the County Show launch. Among them was Hay and Astley, a family-run lavender farm in the Trent Valley, where Julia Hayhurst said the mark helped tell their story: "My family has farmed here for over 100 years. By having the Made in Staffordshire mark, you're buying something knowing exactly where it has come from and has been locally and sustainably sourced."
Robin Hall, the county council's cabinet member for economy and skills, said the scheme gives businesses "the recognition they deserve while helping customers buy local with confidence."
How to get involved
Gnosall-based businesses can apply and find out more on the Made in Staffordshire website. Members of the public can also visit the site to browse the growing directory of local producers and find unique Staffordshire-made products.
