A Section 34 Dispersal Order has been authorised and will remain in force until 31 May 2026, giving officers enhanced powers to deal with individuals suspected of causing disruption, nuisance, or criminal activity within the designated area.
Under the order, police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) can direct individuals to leave the area for up to 48 hours if they have been involved in, or are suspected of being involved in, antisocial behaviour or criminal offences.
The powers are designed to help prevent further incidents, reassure residents and businesses, and maintain public safety in the town centre.
Officers also have the authority to seize items believed to have been used in the commission of offences or acts of antisocial behaviour for the duration of the authorisation.
Residents and visitors may notice an increased police presence in the area while the dispersal powers are in place. Anyone who witnesses antisocial behaviour or criminal activity is encouraged to report it to Staffordshire Police.
The temporary measures come in response to what police have described as a sudden rise in incidents affecting Stafford town centre.
